CHARLOTTE, NC-Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Derek Wilkinson announced today that winger Devin DiDiomete has been assigned to the team by the New York Rangers.

DiDiomete, 21, led the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League in penalty minutes last season with 239 in 73 games. He notched four goals and five assists and skated in four playoff games.

Prior to turning pro, the gritty left-winger from Stratford, Ontario played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves and Sarnia Sting. In 236 career OHL games, he tallied 66 goals, 81 assists for 147 points and added 736 minutes in penalties.

DiDiomete was selected in the seventh round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and was signed by the New York Rangers in 2008.
