Florida Signs Big Defenseman Hoffman

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced the signing of defenseman Mike Hoffman. Hoffman is expected to join the team immediately. Jacob Micflikier has been reassigned to Florida after being called up to Albany since October 24. Goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu has been reassigned by the Florida Panthers to the Everblades.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound defenseman spent last season in Chicago with the AHL's Wolves. In 61 games, he scored two goals and four points with 81 penalty minutes. The stay-at-home defenseman has spent the majority of his six-year professional career in the American Hockey League with Chicago, Portland, Toronto, Manchester, Cleveland and Worcester. In 282 AHL games, the Massachusetts native has 20 goals and 49 points with 602 minutes in penalties. Hoffman has also appeared in 25 ECHL games with Peoria in 2003-04, notching two goals and nine points with 16 penalty minutes.

Micflikier, 25, scored a goal and had a plus-2 rating in three games with Albany during his call up. Micflikier signed a standard player contract with Albany on September 10, 2009 and attended River Rats training camp before being loaned to the Everblades on September 29, 2009. The speedy forward has totaled 25 points (8 goals, 17 assists) in 56 AHL games split between Springfield and Rochester, while also posting 61 points (20 goals, 41 assists) in 39 regular season games in the ECHL. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has 17 points (6g, 11a) in 12 Kelly Cup playoffs game as well. Micflikier has appeared in four games with Florida this season and has two markers and five points and is the team leader in game winning goals (2).

Chris Beckford-Tseu returns to the Everblades after being recalled to Rochester of the American Hockey League. Beckford-Tseu did not appear a game with the Americans. He has played in one game with the 'Blades this season on the road in Toledo. He posted 20 saves in a 5-2 defeat. The Toronto, Ontario native is expected to join the club on their road trip to Charlotte and Gwinnett.

In other transactions, goaltender Nate Zervos has been released and forward Steve McJannet has left the team and has been placed on bereavement leave with a death in his family.
