Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

Jairo Diaz faced the minimum in six of his seven innings, but the bullpen and defense fell apart in the top of the 9th, allowing Ogden to score four runs in a 6-3 loss on Tuesday night.

One night after the Owlz surrendered a 7-2 lead in Helena, the bullpen and defense cost Orem again, as three errors led to three unearned runs in the top of the 9th.

Orem led 3-2 heading to the 9th, but Austin Adams walked the first two batters he faced. Noel Cuevas then struck out swinging, and it looked like Adams might get out of the jam because the next batter, Jose Capellan, hit a ground ball to Michael Bolaski. Bolaski threw the ball high enough to force Sherman Johnson off the bag. Adams fired a wild pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game, and then after striking out Bladimir Franco, Adams allowed a two-run double to Justin Boudreux.

Ogden got the scoring started with two runs in the 2nd inning off of Diaz. Diaz allowed two runs on five hits, but that would be the only inning in which Diaz allowed a hit. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up five hits and issuing two walks.

Michael Snyder hit a solo home run to put Orem on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Snyder singled home Wade Hinkle to tie the game in the 4th.

Orem took a 3-2 lead in the 7th after Sherman Johnson singled, went to second on a passed ball, advanced to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt by Chevy Clarke and then scored on a ground out by Bemboom.

Orem is now one game back of Ogden for first place, and will face the Raptors in the final game of a two game series on Wednesday night. It will be I-15 Construction Appreciation Night, as well as Napa Family Feast Night.
