Diamond Jaxx Storm Back Monday To Win Series Finale

JACKSON, TENN. (JULY 26, 2010) - The Diamond Jaxx (14-17) scored five runs in the seventh inning to pull away from the Birmingham Barons (10-21) Monday afternoon, and win, 9-4. The Jaxx took four out of five from the Barons in the series at Pringles Park. The Jaxx win the season series 5-3 as the Jaxx and Barons will play no more this season. The Jaxx are now 7-3 in their last 10 games and improve to 53-47 overall on the season.

Brandon Haveman, Nate Tenbrink, Alex Liddi and Johan Limonta, the top four batters in the lineup had two hits each and combined for four RBI's. Brandon Bantz picked up his first three-hit game of the season with an RBI. Liddi had two doubles and two more RBI's, giving him now 71 on the season. Cole Armstrong had the only two-hit afternoon for the Barons.

Nick Hill (2-1) earned the win for the Diamond Jaxx and pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Hill struck out two and allowed one hit. Deante Heath (2-3) suffered the loss for the Barons. Heath gave up four runs on four hits in 1.2 innings. Dan Cortes fired two scoreless innings at the end of the game.

The Barons struck for a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Christian Marrero blasted a solo homer to center giving the Barons a 1-0 advantage. After a double from Salvador Sanchez, Cole Armstrong singled home Sanchez from second. The Barons went up 2-0 in the top of the first.

The Jaxx answered in the bottom of the first inning with two runs to tie the score. Alex Liddi doubled in Nate Tenbrink and Johan Limonta hit a sacrifice fly bringing in Liddi. The Jaxx tied the score at 2-2 after the first inning.

The Barons took advantage of a Diamond Jaxx error in the top of the second inning. John Shelby III walked and came around to score on a throwing error by Alex Liddi. The Barons went back on top 3-2 in the second inning. The Barons extended the lead to 4-2 on an RBI single by Eduardo Escobar in the top of the fifth inning.

The Jaxx cut the lead down to one run again in the bottom of the sixth inning on the second RBI double from Alex Liddi in the game. The Jaxx tied the game on a wild pitch thrown by Deante Heath in the bottom of the sixth inning that scored Leury Bonilla from third. The Jaxx tied the game again at 4-4.

The Jaxx took the lead for good by sending five runs across in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Jaxx got RBI's from Carlos Peguero, Leury Bonilla, Brandon Bantz and Brandon Haveman. The Jaxx sent 10 batters to the plate in the seventh and had seven hits and were benefitted by one Barons error. The Jaxx led 9-4.

The Jaxx will enjoy a day off on Tuesday, before heading out on a 10-game road trip to Tennessee and Chattanooga. The Jaxx and Smokies will play at Smokies Park at 6:15 CDT on Wednesday night. RHP Blake Beavan (1-1, 4.91) will make his third Jaxx start and RHP Chris Carpenter (7-4, 3.07) takes the mound for the Tennessee Smokies.
