Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Biscuits (55-44) smashed three homers in an eight-run second inning and bested the Carolina Mudcats (46-54) by a final of 11-4 on Monday at Riverwalk. The eight runs were the most in an inning this season, and the three homers equaled a game-high.

The first homer was a two-run shot from Chris De La Cruz after a Matt Spring RBI-double to make it 3-0. Drew Anderson connected to make it 5-0, then Leslie Anderson finished the onslaught with three-run bomb.

After the Mudcats scored three in the fourth to cut it to 8-3, the Biscuits used a two-run double to key three of their own in the bottom half, making it 11-3. Carolina added one in the eighth to complete the scoring at 11-4.

Heath Rollins gave the Biscuits 3.2 in a spot-start for the Biscuits, allowing three runs on three hits. Justin Garcia (3-2) tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless relief in his return to Montgomery to pick up the win.

Only two of the eight runs allowed by Mudcats starter Tom Cochran (7-5) were earned, but he lasted just two innings. Brad Boxberger came in and gave up three runs over 1.1, and was thrown out of the game for arguing a safe-call at first.

Drew Anderson led the Biscuits by going 3-4, finishing a triple short of the cycle. Emeel Salem also pitched in two hits, recording his team-leading 30th multi-hit game of the season.

After an off-day Tuesday, the Biscuits will begin a five-game set in Mobile with the BayBears. RHP Jeremy Hall will toss for Montgomery against LHP Wade Miley.
