Diablos win first exhibition game 13-1

The El Paso Diablos pounded out 19 hits en route to a 13-1 exhibition game victory over the Juarez Comets on Sunday evening from Cohen Stadium.

The Diablos stormed out of the gates scoring four runs in the opening frame. Newcomer Stantrel Smith had a two-RBI single.

El Paso built a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Reigning American Association Player of the Year Jorge Alvarez blasted a solo-home run.

The Diablos stretched the lead to 10-0 in the bottom of the fifth. El Paso belted out five hits in the inning, including RBI's from Bryon Smith and Kory Drew.

The Comets plated their lone run in the top of the seventh inning. Juan Ortiz stroked an RBI single to left field cutting the deficit to 10-1.

Beau Hintz picks up the victory. He tossed five shut-out innings allowing just one hit with no walks and eight strikeouts.

B.J Litchfield, Paul Schmidt, and Jusef Frias each threw a scoreless inning of relief for El Paso.

The Diablos will take on the El Paso Community College Tejanos on Monday night at 6:05 PM in their second exhibition game. Justin Knoff will take the hill for the Diablos. Admission is two dollars and the seating is first-come first-serve. El Paso Community College students get in for free with a valid student ID.
