Diablos Losing Streak at Double Digits

Shreveport, LA - El Paso fell in the late innings to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains 7-4 at Fair Grounds Field on Sunday night. The Captians scored three runs in the eighth inning to claim the victory and send El Paso to their tenth straight loss.

A scoreless tie was broken in the fourth inning when Shreveport scored two runs on two hits and an error. The Diablos came back to tie the game with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Mike Provencher had an RBI single in the fifth and J.D. Reininger had a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Shreveport responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead. El Paso retied the game the next inning when Rico Santana came up with a big two out hit that brought in two. In the eighth inning the Captains would take control as they struck for three runs on six hits to produce the game's final result.

Jesse Estrada made his first start for El Paso and caught some of the wildness bug that has hit the Diablos this season. Estrada ended up pitching into the sixth inning and allowed only three earned runs on seven hits but also walked six while gathering six strike outs. Barry Fowler had another scoreless outing for El Paso and has now gone nine straight outings without allowing an earned run. Christian Staehley (0-5) was the pitcher of record as he allowed the three runs in the eighth inning to take the loss.

El Paso's offense showed good fight against a tough pitcher in Ryan DiPietro. They battled back twice against the lefty only to be left in a three run hole in the ninth. El Paso had eight hits on the night. Half of them were between two players, Benji Johnson and Mike Provencher. Johnson went 2-4 with a double and Provencher went 2-4 with an RBI. Hector Bernal's on base streak reached 24 straight games as he went 1-4 with a double.

The Diablos head back home for a six game home stand. They open the home stand on Tuesday against the Grand Prairie AirHogs. Dustin Birosak (0-0, 2.84) will make the start for the Diablos.
