Devin Scores Pair of Goals to Lead Stingrays to 5-2 Win over Evansville

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-Joe Devin scored two power play goals and added an assist to lead the South Carolina Stingrays to a 5-2 win over the Evansville IceMen on Sunday afternoon at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Stingrays earned the win under acting Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky, who filled in for an ill Spencer Carbery.

South Carolina scored a pair of goals in the opening period to jump out to an early lead. Only 5:07 into the game, Brett Cameron scored his third goal of the season to give the Stingrays a 1-0 lead. Derek DeBlois fired a pass from behind the net to Cameron who was standing in the crease. The forward flipped a backhand shot over the blocker of Evansville goalie Christoffer Bengtsberg to put the home team out front.

Kyle Kraemer would add his third goal of the season for the Stingrays at 13:30 of the opening period to double the South Carolina lead. David Pacan fed Kraemer streaking down the slot. The forward cut in on a breakaway and stickhanded around Bengtsberg for make it 2-0 South Carolina. New Stingrays goaltender Branden Komm also assisted on the goal.

Devin would make it 3-0 for South Carolina with an early power play goal in period two. Nick Jones let a shot go from the left point that was stopped by Bengtsberg. The rebound came to Devin and the forward connected for his first of two goals at :29 of the second period.

Daultan Leveille scored for Evansville at 10:12 of the second period, snapping a shot off the post and past South Carolina's Komm to make it 3-1. However, Devin responded with his second goal of the game early in the third period. With South Carolina on a five-on-three power play, Devin scored a similar goal to his earlier tally. The forward knocked a rebound past Bengtsberg to make it 4-1 at 5:38 of the third period.

The IceMen would cut the lead to two goals again on a Joe Zarbo goal at 15:49, but DeBlois sealed the win with an empty net goal at 18:44 for South Carolina.

Komm, who spent last season with the IceMen, stopped 23 shots to earn the win in his Stingrays debut. South Carolina outshot Evansville 27-25. The Stingrays went 2-for-6 on the power play while Evansville was 0-for-1.

On the bench, Warsofsky filled in for Carbery for the second time in his career. He took a loss to Orlando during his first season with the Stingrays as Carbery missed the contest due to the birth of his daughter. The victory today was Warsofsky's first as a Head Coach.

The Stingrays continue a seven game homestand as they host Florida on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. That evening is Ladies Night as all women 18 and up receive free admission when they show their ID at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office.
