
Devils Sign Three Players to AHL Contracts

Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils today signed three players to AHL contracts: forwards Benoit Mondou and Joe Rooney, and goaltender Jason Smith. The announcement was made by Lowell Devils General Manager Chris Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.
Mondou, 22, completed his first pro season with 25 goals and 31 assists for 56 points and 36 penalty minutes in 62 appearances with Trenton. The 5-9, 175-lb. forward is the son of former NHLer Pierre Mondou. He signed with the organization on June 24, 2006 after five seasons in the QMJHL, most recently with Shawinigan. Mondou was born May 3, 1985 in Sorel, Que.
Rooney, 21, is the 5-10, 170-lb. son of former NHLer Steve Rooney and spent the past four seasons at Boston College. Rooney's collegiate totals show 29 goals and 57 assists for 86 points and 96 penalty minutes in 154 games played. During that time, the Eagles appeared in three consecutive Hockey East Championship games, winning twice, as well as two NCAA Championship Games. He was born September 15, 1985 in Canton, MA.
Smith, 22, joins the Devils after four years at Sacred Heart (AH). The 6-1, 170-lb. goaltender posted 38 wins, 29 losses, four ties, two shutouts, and a 2.74 goals-against average in 71 appearances for the Pioneers. Smith was named to the conference's First All-Star Team during each of the last two seasons. He was born July 17, 1985 in St. Lambert, Que. Smith was New Jersey's fifth choice, 197th overall in the 2003 Entry Draft.
