Albany Devils News Release

HARTFORD, Conn. - Playing their second game in as many nights, the Albany Devils couldn't overcome the Connecticut Whale, falling 3-2 Tuesday at the XL Center. The contest had divisional undertones as the second-place Devils go to 14-13-3-2 (33 pts.), while the first-place Whale improve to 18-9-1-3 (40 pts.).

Eric Gelinas registered a pair of points with a goal and an assist. He now has three points (2g-1a) in two games. Stephane Veilleux joined Gelinas on the score sheet with his fourth goal of the season and first since Dec. 4.

The Whale were led by a pair of tallies by Andre Deveaux and a goal by Kris Newbury, who also had two assists. Of the five goals scored, four came with the man advantage, including Deveaux's first goal at 2:20 of the first period.

The lone even-strength marker came off Newbury's stick at 19:06 to give the Whale a 2-0 lead.

Deveaux struck again with a man up at 6:08 of the second, but Gelinas responded with a blast from the point at 8:19. Brandon Burlon and Steve Zalewski assisted the power-play tally.

Connecticut penalty issues led to the Devils second goal. The Whale were handicapped by a five minute major and a pair of minors within two minutes and two seconds. Skating 5-on-3, Gelinas' shot was redirected off the stick of Veilleux at 16:52. Matt Anderson had the other helper.

Keith Kinkaid made 23 saves in his third-straight start. At the other end, Cameron Talbot had 33 stops for the win. Albany finished 2-for-4 on the power play, while Connecticut went 2-for-3.

The Devils return to the Times Union Center Friday with a 7 p.m. game against the Manchester Monarchs. The first 4,000 fans will receive an Albany Devils team poster courtesy of Fort Orange Press. Tickets for the game are just $10. Additionally, the Devils and the American Red Cross will host a blood drive between 3-7 p.m. All fans who donate will receive a ticket to a future game and a free t-shirt.
