Montreal Juniors News Release

For their last game of the 2010 calendar year, the Montreal Juniors faced off against the Oceanic in Rimouski, with the home team winning by a 4-3 score in overtime.

At the 10:20 mark of the first period, Montreal forward Philippe Lefebvre opened the scoring with his 16th of the season, with assists going to Jean-Christophe Laflamme and Jérémy Gouchie. It was all the scoring the 4,744 fans in attendance would see in the first frame, as goaltenders Jean-François Bérubé (Montreal) and Morgan Clark (Rimouski) shut the door, each receiving six shots. In the second frame, the Montreal power play gave its team a two goal lead, as J.-C. Laflamme found the twine for his sixth, on assists from P. Lefebvre and J. Gouchie. Seven minutes later, it was Rimouski's turn to score with the man advantage, with Alex Émond connecting for his 13th from Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc and Ryan Kavanagh, sending the Juniors back to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead.

In the third, the closing minutes proved to be amongst the most exciting of the 2010 year. First, Rimouski turned the game upside down with Michael Beaudry (10th) and Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc (sixth) finding the back of the net 18 seconds apart, with less than three minutes left in regulation. However, there is no quitting on a Pascal Vincent coached team, and the Juniors roared back, with defensive defenseman Jonathan Narbonne scoring his first of the season with 32 seconds left on the clock, thus sending the game to overtime.

The extra period lasted just under two minutes, as Jarrad Struders (Rimouski) scored his 16th of the season on the power play, concluding an exciting game with a win for the home team. Jean-François Bérubé, Montreal`s man between the pipes, finished his night of work with 19 saves, while his counterpart, Morgan Clark, kicked out 22 shots. Jérôme Gauthier-Leduc (Rimouski), Michael Beaudry (Rimouski) and Jérémy Gouchie (Montréal) were respectively named first, second and third star of the game.
