Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - At the 11:34 mark of the first period, a slew of teddy bears hit the ice in celebration of the Lewiston MAINEiacs' first goal of the game. Unfortunately, that ended up being the final celebration for the home team, as the Victoriaville Tigres scored the final four goals in a 4-1 win over Lewiston in front of 2,651 fans at the Andrsocoggin Bank Colisee.
Jess Tanguy's opening goal came off of a turnover, as Victoriaville gave up the puck in their defensive corner. Tanguy found himself alone in the slot, where he stickhandled to his backhand, before putting a shot into the top shelf of the goal for his 16th tally of the season. At that point, the teddy bears came flying from the stands, as the MAINEiacs donated the stuffed animals to local less fortunate children.
Less than one minute after the goal, momentum began to swing, as Antoine Houde-Caron and Cameron Critchlow were given two penalties in ten seconds. The Tigres took a while to capitalize, but ultimately did, as Guillaume Goulet pounded in a rebound from the left side of the crease. 2:45 later, Victoriaville took the lead. Philip-Michael Devos picked up the puck behind the net, curled into the right circle, and ripped a wrist shot into the top corner of the goal. Before all was said and done in the first, the visitors chipped in another power play goal, as Goulet scored his second of the night on a shot from the slot.
Victoriaville's defense left the MAINEiacs' offense frustrated in the final two periods. Although Lewiston did produce 20 shots on goal, David Honzik was up to the task, denying all of them. Victoriaville's 20th shot of the night turned the red light on, as Pierre-Luc Pelletier nailed an empty net from the opposite blue line.
David Honzik earned the win for the Tigres, stopping 33 of the 34 shots he faced. Nicholas Champion suffered the loss for Lewiston, allowing three goals on 20 shots.
The MAINEiacs will continue their five-game homestand on Tuesday night at 7:00, when they start 2011 with a visit from the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
