Detroit City FC to Host El Paso on ESPN in Front of Sold-Out Crowd
June 17, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Detroit City FC News Release
DETROIT, Michigan - Detroit City FC is home for the second-consecutive weekend at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck to take on El Paso Locomotive FC on Saturday, June 18. Kickoff is set for noon on ESPN nationally, with streaming available on the ESPN app.
Detroit City announced on Thursday afternoon its first-ever presale sellout of Keyworth Stadium. City sold out its 2017 NPSL National Semifinal against Midland-Odessa on matchday. Keyworth has hosted 7,000-plus for a DCFC match on nine occasions, as recently as last week with an announced crowd of 7,011 against Sacramento. Keyworth's capacity is listed at 7,231 for the 2022 season.
Le Rouge is coming off its first loss at Keyworth Stadium this season, snapping a 15-match unbeaten streak at home dating back to September 18, 2021. The 2-0 loss to Sacramento Republic was just the 12th time in 88 matches under head coach Trevor James that City was held scoreless.
Detroit City FC has never lost consecutive matches with James at the helm. City has claimed six points following losses this season. The last time Le Rouge lost back-to-back fixtures was July 10 and 15, 2016, to Lansing United and Michigan Stars, respectively.
DCFC sits in fourth in the USL Championship's Eastern Conference table with a mark of 7-4-3, just four points off first-place Memphis.
Midfielder Maxi Rodriguez leads Detroit with seven goals in all competitions, while forward Antoine Hoppenot paces the side with five goals in league play. Hoppenot leads the team with the most chances created with 30 - nine being classified by FotMob as big chances created. Hoppenot ranks top five among all players in the league in both stats.
Detroit City FC and El Paso have had opposite seasons thus far in terms of staying in the good graces of the officials. The visiting Locomotive sit second in all of the USL Championship in yellow cards, picking up 50 yellows in its opening 16 matches - good enough for the second-highest tally in the league. Detroit City meanwhile has the fewest yellow card cautions in the league, only going into the referee's book 23 times this season.
El Paso Locomotive enters with a mark of 7-3-6 and sits fifth in the Western Conference. Coming into this weekend the Locomotive are undefeated in the last five outings with a 3-2-0 record. The side's most recent loss came on May 14 at Pittsburgh by the decision of 1-0.
El Paso paces the USL Championship with 30 goals this season along with the San Diego Loyal. No side has held possession more than the Locomotive, keeping the ball for 62.1% of play while boasting the league's best passing percentage - 85%.
Locomotive goalkeeper Evan Newton is tied for first in the league with 41 saves and was just named to the USL Championship's Team of the Week.
