Detroit City FC News Release
DETROIT, Michigan - The Detroit City Football Club returns to league play after a bye week this Saturday, June 4, with a road test at the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Kickoff from Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is at 7 pm ET on ESPN+ and airing locally on WMYD TV20 Detroit.
City's (7-3-2) last game out was on May 21 against Atlanta United 2 - a 3-1 victory for Le Rouge. Forward Antoine Hoppenot led the way with his team-high fifth goal in league play this season, as well tallying his fourth assist of the campaign. Hoppenot was nominated as the league's May Player of the Month, tallying two goals and three assists in three outings.
This Saturday's matchup between Le Rouge and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (7-2-3) is the sides' second meeting this season. The first match was on March 26 at Keyworth Stadium ending in a 1-1 draw. Pittsburgh scored first on a goal by forward Albert Dikwa in the 18th minute. Le Rouge tied it up in the second half off of a penalty kick in the 73rd minute by midfielder Maxi Rodriguez. Since arriving to Detroit, Rodriguez is 7 for 7 from the spot.
After surrendering the first tally in its first three of four league contests, Le Rouge has struck first in its last six of eight - earning at least a point in seven of those outings. Detroit City FC is 6-1-0 while scoring first this season in league play. Since turning professional as a Club in 2020, Detroit City remains unbeaten (37-3-0) while scoring first.
The Riverhounds currently sit in fourth place in the USL Championship Eastern Conference, just one point behind DCFC in third. Pittsburgh's 21 goals this season ranks tied for sixth in the league with City's goal total. The Riverhounds are one of the more penalized squads heading into Saturday's fixture, committing 187 fouls this season - the second highest total among all USL Championship clubs. Le Rouge on the flipside is one of the least penalized, being whistled just 134 times.
Pitt remains a perfect 5-0-0 at home this season, outscoring its opponents 10-1 at Highmark Stadium. The lone goal came on March 19 in the Riverhounds' home opener against Hartford. Pittsburgh is 2-2-2 this season against teams entering the weekend in a playoff position, while DCFC is 0-3-1.
Pittsburgh forward Dane Kelly continues his impressive career in the USL Championship - adding six goals this season to bring his all-time league record to 105. Kelly is the only player in USL Championship history with more than 100 goals. He leads Pittsburgh in shots with 20 and has two assists this season.
Midfielder Kenardo Forbes is a major part of the Riverhounds' attack, ranking second in the league with 32 chances created - and has four assists on the season. Forbes is the league's all-time leader in assists, dishing out 49 helpers throughout his tenure in the USL Championship.
