Detroit City FC, Memphis 901 Battle to 1-1 Draw

HAMTRAMCK, MICHIGAN - After falling behind early, Detroit City Football Club (1-1-2) came out firing in the second half - highlighted by a strike from the top of the six-yard box from forward Pato Botello Faz to force a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon at Keyworth Stadium against Memphis 901 FC (2-1-1).

Le Rouge finished the day with 14 shots, 10 coming from inside the penalty area. City was finally rewarded in the second half with a goal in the 73rd minute. Right back Rhys Williams made an impressive run down the sideline, battling off two defenders before delivering a through ball that found the right foot of Botello Faz for his first goal of the season.

The momentum of the game changed dramatically in favor of Detroit City after halftime. DCFC had quality opportunities and put the pressure on throughout the second frame starting with a great strike from forward Connor Rutz in the 61st minute that was turned away by the diving 901 goalkeeper - Trey Muse. A minute later, it was midfielder Maxi Rodriguez' turn to have a go, hitting one off the crossbar.

Detroit City went into the locker room with a 1-0 deficit for the second-straight outing. In the 28th minute, it was Memphis 901 midfielder Jeremy Kelly with a run through City's defense and placed a ball into an open spot low in the box with forward Phillip Goodrum capitalizing.

City outshot Memphis 901, 14-9, holding Memphis from putting a shot on target in the second half. Memphis finished with just two shots on frame for the whole match. For the fourth-straight fixture, Detroit City won the possession battle, keeping the ball for 63.2% of the match.

This coming Tuesday, April 5, Le Rouge will host the Michigan Stars for the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup. Kickoff from Keyworth Stadium is set for 7:30 pm on ESPN+.
