
Memphis Finishes in a 1-1 Draw With Detroit City FC

DETROIT, Mich. - Memphis 901 FC recorded its first draw of the season and extended its unbeaten streak to three, with a 1-1 draw at Detroit City FC. Memphis moves to 2-1-1 on the season after a defensive second half of play.
Memphis started strong holding possession early in the match. Detroit City got into the match, making the first dangerous play, as Hoppenot sent a long ball across the box however they were unable to capitalize in the ninth minute.
Detroit City's Diop recorded the first yellow card of the match in the 13' minute after tackling from behind. Memphis took the opportunity from the set-piece placing the ball in the six-yard box, before having it cleared out.
Detroit City takes the first shot of the afternoon sending a left-footed shot from the left side across the box before missing the attempt in the 20' minute.
Jeremy Kelly followed shortly after, taking a shot from the top of the box, aiming for the lower right corner, however, Steinwascher got his gloves on the ball before it reached the back of the net in the 20' minute.
Memphis took the lead as Kelly weaved through the Detroit defense, dribbling into the middle of the 18-yard box before laying it off to the right as Phillip Goodrum got his boot on the end of the pass, pushing it into the back of the net in the 28' minute.
Memphis and Detroit traded off possession, exchanging attempts as the clock wound down to end the first half.
The second half started with another good opportunity for Memphis as they received a free-kick just outside the box, however, were unable to capitalize sending the ball over the post.
Detroit took control over a five-minute stretch maintaining possession and putting hard pressure on the Memphis defense.
Detroit received two free-kicks of their own, the first coming from Memphis' Laurent Kissiedou received a yellow for a foul outside the 18-yard box, and a foul by Patrick Seagrist allowing Detroit City an attempt on the far right side of the box, narrowly missing on their second attempt in 54' and 55' minute.
Trey Muse made back-to-back goal-saving moves, blocking a rocket of a shot and shortly after dove to his left protecting the goal from a shot within the box in the 62' minute.
Detroit City's pressure finally produced results as they tied the match up as Rhys Williams sent the ball across into the six-yard box where Pato Botello was waiting, taking a right-footed volleyed shot into the top right corner of the net in the 73' minute.
Detroit really picked up the tempo, controlling the pace and possession of the match. Memphis spent the second half defending and was able to hold to the final whistle for a 1-1 draw.
