Determined Dusters top Yard Dawgz, 58-56

OKLAHOMA CITY- The Amarillo Dusters came into Oklahoma City with one thing on their mind-to win their first game of the 2006 season. And win they did, upsetting the Yard Dawgz 58-56.

Oklahoma City got off to a great start. On a 47-yard pass from quarterback Craig Strickland, wide receiver/defensive back, Al Hunt scored the Yard Dawgz' first points of the game.

Amarillo quickly responded. Dusters' quarterback Steve Panella found Derek Jones in the endzone on a 33-yard pass.

The fans knew that Saturday night's contest was going to be a good match. Then the tide would turn.

With 6.3 seconds remaining in the first-half, Strickland threw his first interception of the season. Amarillo's Terrell Mingo returned the pass for 42-yards to place the Dusters on top 35-28 going in to the half.

Amarillo maintained its lead well in to the forth quarter, leading by as many as 17.

The Yard Dawgz pulled to within two, with :23 remaining. Oklahoma City was unable to control its onside kick and gave Amarillo the ball with :22 remaining.

Oklahoma City's Al Hunt finished the night with 7 receptions for 20 yards and 5 touchdowns. Anthony Dingle added two scores with 5 balls for 73 yards; and Yard Dawgz Jarrail Jackson rounded out the receivers with 7 catches for 97 yards and 1 touchdown. Strickland was 33-19-2 for 290 yards and 8 touchdowns on the night.

Amarillo's Steve Panella threw for 38-36-0 for 255 yards and 4 touchdowns. Derek Jones led all receivers with 9 receptions for 130 yards.

The Yard Dawgz perfect start came to a close as they fell to Amarillo 58-56.

Oklahoma City host the Tulsa Talons on Saturday, May 6th at the Ford Center.
