Granieri leads Pioneers to 62-47 win in return to Manchester

QB Tony Granieri threw for 241 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for two more in his return to New Hampshire to lead his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (4-0) to a 62-47 victory over the Manchester Wolves (2-2) in front of 6,333 fans on Brady Sullivan Field at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H.

Granieri, a former standout at the University of New Hampshire, completed 18 of 31 passes, connecting with OS J.R. Thomas four times for three touchdowns and 70yards. Granieri spread the wealth to his receiving corps, hitting OS Yardon Brantley seven times for 60 yards and a touchdown, and WR/DB Yaacov Yisrael five times for 76 yards and a score. For his efforts, Granieri took home the Schutt MVP award, while Yisrael earned U.S. Army Ironman honors.

In what was hyped as a battle between two very strong defenses, both teams were able to move the ball quite effectively. The Wolves had their most explosive game offensively, collecting a total of 321 yards. WR/DB Steve Gonzalez had another spectacular game for the Wolves with his 13 catches for 152 yards and four touchdowns. Gonzalez also collected the Cutters Catch of the Game award for one of his multiple highlight reel catches. QB Kyle Rowley completed 17 of 31 passes for 206 yards and four touchdowns in three quarters of play for the Wolves. QB D. Bryant was very efficient in limited relief, completing 10 of 13 passes for 103 yards and three scores.

With the win, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers remained undefeated, and atop of the East Division.
