Destroyers sign veteran kicker, former NFL linebacker

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Destroyers have signed kicker Peter Martinez and linebacker Adrian Mayes, Head Coach Doug Kay announced today. The training camp roster now stands at 30 players.

Martinez (6-3, 185, Western Kentucky) will play in his third Arena Football League season in 2007. He finished second in the league in scoring with 144 points and tied for second with 22 field goals made last season. In two years Martinez has connected on 164 of 186 (88%) point after attempts and converted 40 of 81 field goal attempts. Before spending the last two seasons with the Grand Rapids Rampage, he honed his kicking ability with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz of arenafootball2 in 2004. There he was named af2's Kicker of the Year and First-Team all-af2 as he led all kickers in scoring with 126 points and made good on 107 of 122 point after attempts.

Mayes (6-1, 215, Louisiana State) will play in his first AFL season after spending the 2004-05 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and 2006 training camp with the New York Giants. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native played in seven games in two seasons with the Cardinals tallying three tackles. At LSU, Mayes appeared in 32 games for the Tigers and recorded 38 tackles, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
