Columbus Destroyers News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Destroyers wide receiver Tony Locke and linebacker Michale Spicer will join approximately 500 Columbus-area children for the Children's Hunger Alliance Holiday Celebration at Nationwide Arena beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14.
More than 80 volunteers from Limited Brands Inc. will join area media personalities, Locke, Spicer and Stinger, the Columbus Blue Jackets mascot. They will serve the children a nutritious holiday meal, assist with putting the children's feet into skates and help the children create crafts to take home. This is the second year the event has been held at Nationwide Arena.
Children's Hunger Alliance is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in Ohio. They strive to improve children's health and educational performance through better nutrition and physical activity. The agency's holiday party accomplishes both objectives, combining a nutritious meal and ice-skating for children who participate in afterschool meal and enrichment programs the agency sponsors throughout central Ohio. These programs provide meals and enrichment programming to 1,600 Franklin County children aged 5-18 each day. Organizations wanting to learn more about how Children's Hunger Alliance can help feed hungry minds and bodies during afterschool hours and summer months may contact the agency at 614-341-7700 x 267.
The Destroyers will kickoff their fourth season in Columbus and ninth overall in the Arena Football League on Mar. 1, 2007, against the Nashville Kats at Gaylord Entertainment Center. The home opener is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 24, against the defending ArenaBowl champion Chicago Rush. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Don't miss all of the hard-hitting action at Huntington Field at Nationwide Arena as the Destroyers look to make the push for ArenaBowl XXI in New Orleans.
