ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 13) -- MARCUS WATERS, a wide receiver turned defensive lineman, has agreed to a two-year contract with the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League.

Waters, who played high school football at Sarasota Booker, was recruited to Michigan State as a linebacker. The 6-5, 235-lb. Waters was switched to wide receiver in 2000-- leading the Spartans in yards per reception with 17 catches for 279 yards (16.4 avg.) as a sophomore.

Waters later grew to 295-lbs. and signed with the Florida Firecats of the "arenafootball2" league late in the 2005 season. He recorded 2.5 tackles with a sack in two games for the Firecats. In 2006, he missed most of the season with injuries but managed 5.5 total tackles with a quarterback sack and a pass defense in four games. He added one sack in the post-season.

"Marcus had a tremendous workout during the tryout camp and certainly merited a contract," Player Personnel Director Les Moss said. "He's got excellent size and strength but also ran a 4.8 in the 40 and a 4.4 in the shuttle. There's not too many lineman that size who can move like that."

He becomes the first player to sign with the Predators from its Dec. 9 Free Agent Open Tryout Camp and the record seventh player to sign with Orlando from its Open Tryout Camp system for the 2007 season. Orlando signed six players from its September Tryout Camp.

Moss went on to add that Waters' signing would hopefully not be the last from the open tryout camp. "We're extremely interested in at least three other players from last Saturday's tryout. Hopefully we'll get those players under contract in the next week or so."
