Kats to Volunteer with Salvation Army

December 13, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Nashville Kats News Release

NASHVILLE- Nashville Kats players and staff will take time out of their holiday schedules to assist the less fortunate while volunteering with the Salvation Army of Middle Tennessee on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 107 Taylor St. Nashville, TN 37208. The Kats will participate in The Salvation Army's sorting and distribution of gifts, of which were donated by area businesses and Tennesseans just wanting to help. The Kats will work hand in hand with Salvation Army staff and with gift recipients to make sure everyone in attendance has the best holiday possible.

Each year, nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. It is estimated that about 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide.

Kat players scheduled to be in attendance include QB Clint Stoerner, FB/LB Dan Alexander, OL/DL Aaron McConnell, OL/DL Anthony Herron and DB Dominique Morris. Recently retired 16-year AFL Veteran and current Kats Assistant General Manager Darryl Hammond is also slated to assist in the team's volunteering appearance.

"We believe this is a great opportunity for our organization to demonstrate what true community service means, especially this time of year. Giving is what the holidays are all about," said Hammond.

The Kats 2007 season is set to kick-off Thursday, March 1st when the club hosts the Columbus Destroyers. Nashville will compete in the AFL's Central Division, a talent-rich division that houses the past two ArenaBowl Champions (Chicago Rush 2006, Colorado Crush 2005) and added the Kansas City Brigade in a realignment change.
