Buffalo Destroyers News Release

(BUFFALO, NY) – The Buffalo Destroyers head to Detroit for the first part of a home and home series with the Fury Saturday at 7:30 PM at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

The Destroyers look to avenge a 32-27 pre-season loss to the Fury. In that game, the Destroyers scored 20 fourth quarter points led by OS Jarrail Jackson's three touchdowns.

"They beat us in our pre-season opener, but I see an entirely different team," said head coach and general manager Ray Bentley. "We were not anywhere near the football team we are now."

The Fury come in with the worst scoring offense at 37.5 points per game but the Destroyers are last in the league in scoring defense giving up 60 points per contest.

"We worked hard on the little things this week," Bentley added. "We tried to eliminate some of the problems we had last week."

The Destroyers are ranked fourth in the Arena Football League in scoring offense putting up 53.5 points a game. QB Fred McNair is in the top four in the league in pass rating and touchdown passes. OS Lamont Cooper is second in the league averaging 208.5 all-purpose yards per game.

McNair needs only four touchdown passes to move into seventh place in the AFL's all-time touchdown passes list. McNair has 299 for his career as he looks to pass Mike Pawlawski who stands in seventh with 303. McNair passed Pawlawski for seventh place on the leagues all time passing yards list in week one vs. New Jersey.

This week's game will be televised on the Empire Sports Network and simulcast on WNSA 107.7 FM in Buffalo and WJTN 1240 AM in Jamestown.

The Destroyers return home next Saturday, May 11 to host the Fury at 7:30 PM at the HSBC Arena. Tickets are on sale now, call 881-4444.
