
Destroyers Announce Weekly Award Winners

(BUFFALO, NY) - The Buffalo Destroyers kicked off the 2002 season on a high note last week defeating Eastern Division foe the New Jersey Gladiators 53-51 at the HSBC Arena. After the game, the coaching staff recognized a few players for their outstanding performance.
Offensive Player of the Game: WR/DB Carlos James, five catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensive Player of the Game: WR/DB Eddie Brown, two tackles and one interception that led Buffalo to their final touchdown.
Game MVP: QB Fred McNair, 16 of 21 for 191 yards five touchdowns, one rush for two yards and a touchdown. McNair moved into seventh place in the AFL in all-time passing yards now with 16, 782 career yards.
Scout Team Player of the Week: FB/LB John Motton
Big Hit Award: WR/DB Eddie Brown
Special Teams Player of the Game: DS Prentice Taylor
Ironman: OL/DL David Caldwell
Hi-Motor Guy: OL/DL Hardy Mitchell, this is a special award for Mitchell because of his relentless pursuit on both sides of the field.
"As a team we graded over 90%," said head coach and general manager Ray Bentley. "We did an outstanding job executing our schemes, it was a great effort by the whole team."
The Destroyers hit the road this weekend to meet the New York Dragons Sunday, April 28 at noon at Nassau Coliseum. The game will be televised on Empire Sports Network and on the radio at WNSA 107.7FM.
