Despite Strong Pitching, Wild Things Fall to Crushers

Avon, Ohio - Starter Billy Muldowney pitched a complete game and gave up just two runs, but the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, fell to the Lake Erie Crushers 2-1 Tuesday night at All Pro Freight Stadium. The winning run came in the bottom of the ninth, when former Wild Thing Matt Sutton hit an RBI single.

Lake Erie had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Rapheal Turner walked to lead off the inning. He then stole second and scored on a ground out by Casey McGrew.

A half inning later, the Wild Things tied it up after Jon Kourie tripled with one out and then scored on a double by Wilson Matos.

The score would remain the same until Sutton's one-out single in the ninth. Muldowney gave up a single to Lee Huggins and then walked Joel Collins to put the winning run in scoring position for Sutton.

Muldowney gave up two runs on five hits in 8.1 innings. He walked three and struck out six in the loss. Lake Erie starter Josh Roberts gave up one run on five hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out one in the no decision. Reliever Ronnie Morales pitched two innings of hitless baseball in relief for the Crushers. He walked one and struck out one in the win
