New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals tied a Can-Am League record by turning five double plays, but right-hander Matthew Rusch tossed seven solid innings to lead the first-place Quebec Capitales past New Jersey, 5-1, in front of a sellout crowd of 4,188 fans on Saturday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.

In his second start of the season, Rusch (3-0) allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk to earn the win. Reliever Andrew Albers held the Jackals scoreless over the final two frames to seal the victory.

Quebec struck early, using three consecutive hits in the top of the first inning to plate the game's first two runs against New Jersey starter Chris Allen. After a leadoff single by center fielder Goefrey Tomlinson and a double from shortstop Ivan Naccarata to place runners on second and third. An infield single off the bat of right fielder Sebastian Boucher pushed Tomlinson across with the game's first run before Naccarata scored on a double play off the bat of first baseman Rene Leveret to make it 2-0. Boucher hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season, to right field in the top of the third to extend the Capitales lead to 3-0.

The Jackals used a one-out double to right by third baseman Abraham Nunez and a two-out double off the wall by first baseman Jacob Butler to plate their only run in the bottom of the third inning.

Quebec tacked on a run in the fourth a Morgan Brown RBI single before capping the scoring with an unearned run in the eighth courtesy of back-to-back New Jersey errors.

Allen (0-3) went six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with five walks and four strikeouts. New Jersey's bullpen held Quebec scoreless over the final three frames with Isaac Pavlik working the seventh and eighth and rookie Jairo Mendez tossing the top of the ninth.

New Jersey, right fielder Kevin Clark went 1-for-3 with a fifth inning single to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Second baseman Argenis Reyes laced his first triple of the season in the second inning in a 1-for-3 night at the dish.

For Quebec, Boucher went 3-for-3 before leaving the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after suffering an injury while sliding into second base on a stolen base in the top of the frame.
