Sacramento Republic FC dominated the scoring chances in the first half of the match as Cameron Iwasa and JJ Koval saw openings in the first 10 minutes. Iwasa had a real scoring chance in the 13th minute as he attacked up the middle of the field. With time and space, he took a couple of touches towards goal and sent a right-footed shot wide left of the post and out of play. The home side also could not find the net after a flurry of chances in the 27th minute, including three straight corner kicks.

Republic's lone vulnerable moment of the first half came in the 32nd minute when Saint Louis FC forward Irvin Herrera broke down the middle of the field and received a dangerous through ball in the air. Herrera took two touches towards goal before Republic FC defender Chris Christian made a crucial slide tackle to dispense of the scoring chance and keeping the match scoreless at the break.

Saint Louis FC opened the scoring in the 59th minute when forward Mike Ambersley turned a counterattack chance into a goal. Following a Republic FC corner kick Saint Louis FC forward Irvin Herrera took the clearance and delivered a through ball to a streaking Ambersley. The forward took one touch towards goal and sent a right footed shot that deflected off of Republic FC defender James Kiffe and past keeper Dominik Jakubek into the back of the net.

Republic FC had numerous chances to equalize in the final half hour. Midfielder Alfonso Motagalvan nearly got on the score sheet in the 65th minute for Republic FC when he sent a rebound chance back at goal with a crushing side volley. Unfortunately Motagalvan could not get the ball to dip enough as it flew just inches over the crossbar.

Second-half substitute Max Alvarez had a near miss in the 75th minute as his left-footed offering from 20 yards out went just wide of the post. Forward Harry Williams also had a nice chance in the 86th minute when we sent a driven volley on net that one-hopped in front of Saint Louis keeper Patrick McLain. The former Republic FC keeper was up to the task however and handled it easily.

"We have to keep working at it," said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. "Goals are the hardest thing to get in the game of football. It's a common theme since I have been at the club where we dominate games and we try not to get broken on."

Republic FC will be back in action on Saturday, April 30, when they take on Orange County Blues FC. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Ticket are available at Ticketmaster.com.
