Desperados Tim Martin Named AFL Defensive Player of the Week

The Arena Football League today announced that Dallas Desperados lineman Tim Martin has been named the league's "ADT" Defensive Player of the Week. The award is the first such honor for Martin and is the third time a Desperados player has been named "ADT" Defensive Player of the Week.
Martin finished Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Avengers with half a tackle, a sack, a forced fumble and a blocked kick. While pressuring Avengers quarterback Tony Graziani all afternoon, Martin finally got to the Los Angeles signal caller with less than 0:30 remaining on the game clock to help secure the Desperados victory.
After Dallas had scored to take a 53-50 lead with 0:38 remaining, the Avengers were facing a second-and-three from the Dallas 23-yard line when Martin jumped over his blocker and hit Graziani, forcing a fumble. The loose ball was picked up by WR/LB Andy McCullough and returned 22 yards for a touchdown and a 10-point Desperados advantage with 0:26 showing on the clock. Los Angeles then scored to cut their deficit to three points and recovered the ensuing onside kick. With less than a second remaining in the game, the Avengers lined up for a 53-yard game-tying field goal attempt, which Martin blocked to seal Dallas' victory.
For the season, Martin has set new career-best marks for tackles (19.5), tackles behind the line of scrimmage (3.0) and quarterback pressures (seven) while tying a career-high with two forced fumbles and ranking second on the team with three sacks (second best total of his AFL career).
Martin and the rest of the Dallas Desperados play their final regular season home game at Reunion Arena this weekend as they host the league-leading Tampa Bay Storm.
