
AFL Names Players of the Week

NEW YORK â Chicago Rush quarterback BILLY DICKEN, Dallas Desperados offensive/defensive lineman TIM MARTIN and Tampa Bay Storm offensive/defensive lineman B.J. COHEN have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 13 of the 2003 season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dicken (6-2, 215, Purdue), in his third AFL season, connected on 20-of-24 passes for 235 yards, four touchdowns, one interception and recorded a rushing touchdown in the Rush 54-46 victory over the Central Division-leading Grand Rapids Rampage (8-5) on Sunday. The former Boilermaker led the Rush (6-7) by connecting with OS ANTONIO CHATMAN for a 22-yard touchdown pass that sealed the victory. Dicken is Chicago's all-time leader in attempts (1,098), completions (669), passing yards (8,417) and passing touchdowns (174). This marks the second time Dicken has earned an AFL weekly honor.
ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Martin (6-5, 270, Tulsa), who is in his third AFL season, led Dallas (8-4) on the defensive side of the ball in the Desperados' 60-57 victory over the Western Division-leading Los Angeles Avengers (9-4) on Sunday. The former member of the Golden Hurricane recorded a forced fumble and sack that led to a WR/LB ANDY MCCULLOUGH touchdown. He then blocked a potential game-tying field goal as time expired. Martin leads the Desperados in blocked kicks (3), while tallying 18.5 total tackles, 2.0 sacks and three tackles for loss. This marks the first time Martin has earned an AFL weekly honor.
IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
Cohen (6-2, 260, Marshall), who is in his fifth AFL season, led Tampa Bay (10-3) with his two-way performance by hauling in a reception for a 9-yard touchdown in the Storm's 59-45 victory over the New York Dragons (5-8) on Sunday. On his way to garnering Ironman of the Game honors, the former All-Arena performer added 2.0 sacks and two quarterback hurries. The former member of the Thundering Herd is leading the Storm in sacks (5.0) and tackles for loss (4.0), while recording two interceptions and 16.5 total tackles. This marks the second time Cohen has earned an AFL weekly honor.
Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Sherdrick Bonner, Buffalo's Cornelius White, Chicago's Billy Dicken, Dallas' Andy McCullough, Las Vegas' Jay McDonagh, Los Angeles' Chris Jackson, Orlando's Jay Gruden, San Jose's Mark Grieb, Tampa Bay's Lawrence Samuels and Freddie Solomon.
ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates include: Arizona's Ricky Parker, Buffalo's Dwaine Carpenter, Dallas' Tim Martin, Las Vegas' Damon Mason and Los Angeles' Cornelius Coe.
Ironman of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Randy Gatewood, Buffalo's Jarrail Jackson, Chicago's Cornelius Bonner, Dallas' Will Pettis, Georgia's Darryl Hammond, Las Vegas' Sedrick Robinson, San Jose's Barry Wagner and Tampa Bay's B.J. Cohen.
