Rush to Honor Breast Cancer Survivors on Mother's Day

April 29, 2003 â The Chicago Rush has teamed up with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, Y-Me Chicagoland and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to honor breast cancer survivors, and raise money for the fight against breast cancer, at the team's game against the Arizona Rattlers on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11.
"Breast cancer is a disease that affects one out of every eight women," said Mike Polisky, Rush senior vice president/general manager. "There is no better time for us to honor those who have fought the battle against breast cancer than Mother's Day. And, by raising some money for these worthy foundations in the process, perhaps we can assist in helping find a cure."
As part of the day's festivities, the Rush is donating two complimentary tickets to the game to all breast cancer survivors. Survivors and supporters also may purchase additional tickets at a discounted price ($24 tickets for $20 and $16 tickets for $12) with half of the proceeds from the ticket sales being divided among the four organizations supporting the day's events.
The first 100 breast cancer survivors who secure their tickets will participate in a halftime ceremony honoring all breast cancer survivors. During the ceremony the survivors and their guests (representing the fact that nobody faces breast cancer alone) will join in a parade on the field saluting all breast cancer survivors.
In addition, the Rush coaches and staff will wear pink ribbons symbolizing the fight against breast cancer.
