Las Vegas Desert Dogs News Release
SASKATOON, Sask. - The Saskatchewan Rush used an eight-goal run in the second quarter to help push the hosts to a 15-10 victory over the visiting Las Vegas Desert Dogs Saturday night at the SakTel Centre.
The Desert Dogs move to 1-5 on the season, while the Rush improve to 3-2.
Rob Hellyer (1G, 4A) and Jacob Ruest (1G, 3A) led the way offensively for the Desert Dogs, while Landon Kells managed 27 saves in goal.
The Desert Dogs had the momentum in their corner early, holding a 3-2 lead on the Rush after the first quarter. Connor Kirst quickly pushed the lead to 4-2 right off the opening faceoff in the second quarter, but the Rush took command from there scoring the next eight goals.
Charlie Bertrand finally stopped the bleeding at the 2:03 mark in the second quarter, and Ruest got another back for the Dogs before the break to make it 10-6 at the half.
Vegas got off to a hot start in the second half, netting goals from Hellyer and John Phillips to cut the deficit to two. But Sask held its ground from there, scoring five of the game's final seven goals to seal the win.
Las Vegas will return to action on Saturday, February 4 when the team hosts the Colorado Mammoth at Michelob ULTRA Arena. Faceoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on MyLVTV and ESPN+.
