Practice Report: Panther City Lacrosse Club at Vancouver

January 28, 2023 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Panther City Lacrosse Club News Release

The Panther City Lacrosse Club arrived in Vancouver Friday and practiced at the Ladner Leisure Facility at their outdoor covered rink. Plenty of local BC residents came out to take in practice and Panther City Head Coach Tracey Kelusky ended practice a little early and invited all the children in attendance to come out and take turns shooting with the team on goalies Nick Damude and Cam MacLeod. The entire group then helped break down the huddle at the conclusion of practice and Panther City players stuck around to sign autographs and take pictures with all of those in attendance.

The team is coming off a big, come-from-behind victory in Philadelphia two weeks ago that saw Will Malcom score the game-winning goal with 48 seconds remaining in the game. Malcom finished the evening with seven points (4G/3A), which was his second seven-point performance of the 2022-23 season. Goalie Nick Damude stopped 40 of the 50 shots he faced (.800 save percentage) en route to his third win of the season. Victoria, B.C. native, Patrick Dodds, recorded his 100th career point against Philadelphia two weeks ago, which was just his 23rd career game. He finished the night with five points (1G/4A).

Making his Panther City debut will be newly acquired forward Callum Crawford who was acquired on January 18 from the New York Riptide. The 17-year veteran will bring, "veteran leadership to our young offensive core and with his athleticism, he adds another threat to our right side, as he has shown his game is still at an elite level and he possess all of the skill sets to remain a top scoring threat in this league," according to Panther City General Manager Bob Hamley. Crawford, who recorded 88 points (39G/49A), last season with the Riptide will wear #98 will the club.

POST PRACTICE INTERVIEWS

FORWARD CALLUM CRAWFORD QUOTES

On his initial thoughts on joining the team and his fit amongst the offense after two practices...

"It is great. A lot to learn. Obviously, these guys have been together for some time. A lot of flow and things for me to catch up on. I am excited for it though. It is a smart offense. I think what TK [Head Coach Tracey Kelusky] and Gounds [Offensive Coordinator Kyle Goundrey] are doing is brilliant. If we can execute within those concepts and have some creativity through structure then it is going to be fun."

On what he is looking to bring to the team and offense...

"If I can just help us take that one extra step that [the team] feels they need then that is it. I have some athleticism and some vision. Getting back to distributing the ball a little more. I deem great players, the players who have the ability to make those around them better, so that is what I am striving to do."

On the keys to victory tonight...

"Scoring by committee. Our defense is going to push the pace and do their thing. Us as an offense, if we can score by committee and do this together then I think it will be fun and we will be set."
