Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers are pleased to announce that they have hired Doug Miller as their new Team President. Miller comes to the Bucs with a strong resume of hockey experience, including 12 years in the USHL with the Waterloo Black Hawks.

In 2001 Miller was hired by Waterloo as the General Manager of Business Operations, a position he held until 2009 when he was promoted to President. While in that position the USHL recognized Miller with the Dave Tyler Executive of the Year Award for the 2011-2012 season. Prior to his time in Waterloo, Miller worked for the Billings Bulls of the AWHL and the Topeka Scarecrows of the CHL.

Miller has worked outside of hockey since 2012 but has kept a close eye on the USHL and other leagues and kept up to date with what was happening. Several teams had approached him since leaving Waterloo; however only Des Moines had all the elements he was looking for to return to hockey. "Des Moines is an incredible hockey market, one that I have always envied and I am so excited to be part of the next chapter here," explained Miller.

The fit is not just a good one for Miller but for the Buccaneers as well, as he has been on the their radar for some time. "We're excited to get Doug; for years we've talked internally about if there was ever a way to get him here, we would jump at the opportunity," said Des Moines Buccaneers CEO Ami Peled. "Doug epitomizes what the Buccaneers have been, are, and forever will be. We think that the future has never looked brighter for our organization."

Miller now finds himself in a familiar situation and surroundings after joining the staff in Des Moines. "The Buccaneers have many similarities to the Waterloo Black Hawks when I got there," recalls Miller. "A long history of hockey in the community, a very loyal fan base and ownership who truly care about the players and fans and want to improve the entire experience for everyone." Miller expects to duplicate some of the success he had in Waterloo, where the team was named USHL Organization of the Year three times and also broke their attendance record in seven consecutive seasons during his tenure.

Outside of hockey, Miller served in the United States Army where he was a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Specialist He then received a B.S. in Public Relations from Kansas State University with outside concentrations in Speech and Marketing and has been successful in sales and marketing his entire career.
