Derek Lanoue Bursary Created by the Town of Lakeshore

(Windsor) Yesterday evening, at the Lakeshore Municipal Council Chambers, the Town of Lakeshore presented Windsor Spitfires forward Derek Lanoue with a certificate of recognition for his outstanding academic and athletic achievements this season. In honour of Derek's accomplishments, the Town of Lakeshore Council also announced the creation of the "Derek Lanoue Bursary", to be awarded this year to a student of Ecole Secondaire L'Essor, where Derek graduated in 2009.

This one-time bursary will be awarded to the student of Ecole Secondaire L'Essor that best exemplifies a combination of academic and athletic abilities at the school's 2010 Graduation Ceremony.

Earlier this month, Derek was awarded the 2009-2010 OHL Roger Neilson Memorial Award as OHL's top academic college/university player at the 2010 OHL Awards ceremony hosted in Toronto, ON.

About Derek Lanoue

Derek is a student at the University of Windsor and is enrolled in six courses. Lanoue maintains an 84% average while playing for the Spitfires. His courses include English, Chemistry I and II, Calculus I and II and Stats for Sciences where he achieved a 92% grade. In January, 2010 Derek was named the OHL West Division Academic Player of the Month.
