
Denver Outlaws Rookies Sign MLL Contracts

DENVER - Five Outlaws rookies have signed Major League Lacrosse contracts, making them eligible to play in Saturday's 7 p.m. game vs. Chesapeake at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
Below are brief bios on the players that can see their first MLL action this weekend:
Attackman Chris Bocklet (Virginia) - Bocklet was a two-time honorable mention USILA All-American, finishing his career at Virginia with 137 goals and 28 assists for a total of 165 points. He led the Cavaliers with 36 goals and ranked second on the team with 44 points during his senior season. As a junior, Bocklet ranked 10th in the country with a 2.44 goals per game average and had the longest goal-scoring streak (35 games) that was snapped in Virginia's NCAA Championship Game victory. The brother of Outlaws two-time All-MLL defenseman Matt Bocklet, Chris was drafted by Charlotte with the 29th overall pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate draft, then traded to Denver. Bocklet was born in South Salem, N.Y..
Midfielder Colin Briggs (Virginia) - Briggs was a two-time USILA All-American at Virginia, earning the honor in each of his final two seasons. He finished his career with 63 goals and 28 assists (91 points) in 65 career games for the Cavaliers, earning Outstanding Player Award for the 2011 NCAA Tournament after leading Virginia to the National Championship with five goals in the final. Briggs, who was drafted by the Outlaws with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft was born in Narragansett, R.I.,.
Attackman Mark Matthews (Denver) - Matthews is the all-time scoring leader with 216 career points and 155 goals in 65 career games at DU. By the end of his senior season, Matthews ranked second nationally among all active Division I lacrosse players in career goals scored and fourth in points. He finished his college career with 30 hat tricks and scored at least one point in 45 straight games, which represented the fifth-longest streak in the nation. Matthews ranked third in the country with 2.94 points per game in 2012. A two-time USILA All-American, Matthews earned the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year award as a junior and was named first-team All-ECAC in each of his final three seasons for the Pioneers. Matthews, who was selected by Denver with the fourth overall pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft, was born in Oshawa, Ontario.
Midfielder Drew Snider (Maryland) - Snider was a team captain for Maryland during his senior year in which he finished with 24 goals and seven assists for 31 points. He totaled 49 goals and 16 assists (65 points) with 39 ground balls during his four-year career for the Terrapins. He earned the team's Dan Snyder Award as the most improved player during his redshirt sophomore season. Snider was a two-time US Lacrosse High School All American at O'Dea High School. Snider, who was originally selected with the 45th overall pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft by Chesapeake before joining the Outlaws, was born in Seattle, Wash.
Attackman Kevin Vaughan (Harvard) - Vaughan was a two-time All-Ivy League first team member and finished with 56 goals, 42 assists for 98 total points with 130 ground balls at Harvard. Named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List in 2012, Vaughan was a preseason All-American and earned USILA Scholar All-America honors. He served as a team captain in his final two years with the Crimson and finished in the top three on his team in scoring during each of his final three seasons. Vaughan, who was drafted with the 14th overall pick in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft, was born in Ridgewood, N.J.
