Denver Outlaws Drop Road Contest to Rochester Rattlers

ROCHESTER - Drew Snider had four goals but the Denver Outlaws (7-2) fell to the Rochester Rattlers (6-3) by a 19-4 count on the road Sunday afternoon. The Outlaws remain in first place, with the Rattlers a game back in the standings.
Jeremy Sieverts scored the first goal of the game-No. 15 on the season for the midfielder-to give Denver an early 1-0 lead. Rochester answered with five straight first-quarter goals, leaving the Outlaws with the largest first-quarter deficit they've faced all season. It marked just the second game this season that Denver didn't lead after the first quarter.
Rochester would add two more early in the second quarter, before Eric Law ended the Rattlers' scoring streak to cut the lead to 7-2. The Rattlers added another pair of goals to take a 9-2 lead before Drew Snider made a great move to cut around the crease and get open to score, cutting the Rochester lead to 9-3.
Sieverts dished an easy one to Law in front of the goal to make it 9-4, but the Rattlers would score another two goals before halftime, taking a 11-4 lead into the break. It marked just the second time this season that Denver trailed at the half.
Rochester came out of the half with a quick goal, 14 seconds into the third quarter, but Denver responded with a Curtis Dickson goal to narrow the lead to 12-5. Rochester added two more before backup goalie Charlie Cipriano took over for Jesse Schwartzman, who was coming off a career outing last week against Chesapeake and also played in the MLL All-Star game this past Thursday for Team USA.
Law and Snider scored back-to-back goals in the third quarter, cutting the Rochester lead to 14-7. Law's third goal earned him his sixth hat trick of the season. Sieverts, who leads the MLL with six 2-point goals, put a long-range 2-point goal in to cut the lead to 15-9. Zack Greer, who suited up in an Outlaws uniform for the first time this season, dished a nice pass to Snider late in the third quarter to give him his third goal of the night.
The Outlaws ended the third quarter on a 5-1 run, narrowing Rochester's lead to 15-10 heading into the final quarter.
Two fourth-quarter goals from John Grant Jr. and a goal apiece from Snider and Dickson would cut Rochester's lead to four goals at one point, but six goals on the night from Rochester rookie Mark Cockerton proved to be too much to overcome, and the Outlaws fell to a final count of 19-14.
Anthony Kelly finished the night 14-27 (.519) on faceoffs, and his five ground balls moved him into 7th place for most groundballs in MLL history.
The Outlaws have a short week, hosting the Boston Cannons this Friday, July 4 at 7 p.m. for their annual Mile High Fourth of July celebration game, presented by Miller Lite. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network with postgame fireworks launched from inside the bowl at Sports Authority Field. Since their inaugural season in 2006, the Outlaws have set a professional lacrosse attendance record with each Independence Day game, with an impressive 31,019 fans attending the 2013 game.
