Cannons Fall 15-12 in Charlotte

BOSTON, MA (June 29, 2014) - The Boston Cannons (4-5) fell to the Charlotte Hounds (4-5) on the road 15-12 Saturday night at American Legion Stadium in Charlotte, NC. Both teams are now currently tied for the fourth and final spot in playoffs. The Cannons were led by Stephen Berger and Will Manny who both tallied five points in the game.

The Hounds got on the board first with a powerplay goal from rookie Justin Ward just three minutes in. Kevin Buchanan tied it back up just moments later, however. Both teams added two goals to close out the first quarter tied at 3.

Will Manny gave the Cannons a 5-3 lead towards the end of the first half, when he scored back to back goals. The lead didn't last long though, as the Hounds came back to tie it 5-5 heading into the break.

The third quarter was in favor of Boston, after scoring four consecutive goals to give themselves a 9-6 lead thanks to much success on the faceoff X. The Hounds briefly held a 6-5 lead with a a goal from Mike Chanenchuk, but the Cannons scored two goals in 30 seconds off the faceoff, to pull back ahead 7-6. That was followed by another two goals in 40 seconds, including one from Rabil, to give the Cannons a 9-6 advantage heading into the fourth.

The Cannons went into the fourth quarter with the lead, but the Hounds immediately responded scoring 6 of the next 7 goals to put them ahead 14-10 with five minutes remaining.

Boston brought themselves back within 3 goals, but couldn't complete the comeback and the Hound beat the Cannons for the first time in their history. The Cannons now head out to Denver to take on the Outlaws during their Fourth of July game.

Game Notes:

-Boston's Kevin Buchanan scored two goals; he is tied with Ohio's Peter Baum as the MLL scoring leaders, with 26 goals each.

-Boston's Faceoff Specialist Chris Eck went 16-for-25. He leads the league with the top faceoff percentage.

-The two teams split the season series; Boston won the first meeting, 14-6, on May 17th.
