Frank Brown Uses his Platform to Make a Difference

Boston Cannons News Release

Major League Lacrosse star Frank Brown of the Boston Cannons recently launched the first Cousin Brownie Holiday Give Back, whose mission is to benefit Seneca families of the Iroquois Confederacy from the Allegany and Cattaraugus territories.

The Cousin Brownie Holiday Give Back has created an Amazon Wish List in partnership with Seneca Nation Child and Family Services. For every $10 spent on toys or donations, individuals will be granted one raffle ticket. The raffle ticket includes items from professional lacrosse players, professional organizations, and leagues all around the country.

You can buy an item straight off of the wish list, and it will be given directly to the community, or you can make a donation via Venmo (@CousinBrownie) or PayPal. They are taking donations until December 18th.

Brown first started the Cousin Brownie Holiday Give Back because he realized how many people have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, so he wanted to use his platform to make a difference.

"This was a bit of a spur-of-the-moment thing," Brown said in an interview with The Post Journal. "I think we started planning it a little under a week ago. I've got a good network of people who are of the same mindset that goes with running an event like this. I feel very fortunate, you know? I think I have a platform that allows me to do good. With hard times and difficult circumstances falling on everyone, I think it would be a shame if I didn't put that platform to good use."

Brown announced the Cousin Brownie Holiday Give Back on December 7th and has since then seen a ton of support from the lacrosse community.

"It was super easy," Brown told the Post Journal. "There is no shortage of guys willing to help out," Brown said. " I don't think I really needed to say much more than, 'Hey I'm doing this toy drive for my community, are you willing to help?' Everyone was willing to support us just like that."

"As the great Clark Griswold said, "this isn't charity, it's family," Brown says on the Give Back Website. Cousin Brownie was inspired by that same sentiment - the love of family and what it means within our communities. The true meaning of the Christmas spirit! In Seneca we say O'tgönönyö:', which can loosely translate to, "I thank you, I give my respect/love."
