Mississippi Braves News Release
Clementina and Gonzalez homer, Dean reaches base four times BOX SCORE PEARL, MS - Riley Delgado hit a walk-off single in the ninth to lift the Mississippi Braves (27-34) over the Birmingham Barons (25-36) 6-5 on Friday night at Trustmark Park.
Delgado brought in the winning run for the second time this season and snapped the M-Braves six-game losing streak, their longest of the season.
The walk off was the second at Trustmark Park this season after Drew Lugbauer's walk-off single on June 3 against Montgomery.
Delgado is hitting .292, which ranks ninth in the Southern League, with a home run and 14 RBI.
Jalen Miller knocked in Justin Dean on an RBI single for the first run of the game in the first. Miller's hit put him on a five-game hit streak.
Hendrik Clementina blasted a two-run bomb to left center field to make it 3-0 in the second.
The homer was Clementina's fifth of the season. The catcher is batting .254 with five home runs and 17 RBI.
The Barons matched those runs with one in the third and two in the fourth to tie the game 3-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, Dean reached on an infield single that scored Delgado to retake the lead 4-3.
Dean reached base four times with a hit and three walks. Atlanta's No. 30 prospect picked up his third steal in two games and is 8-for-9 on stolen base attempts in 19 games for Mississippi.
With the game again tied 4-4, Yariel Gonzalez hammered a solo homer into the right field bullpen to give the M-Braves a 5-4 lead, his seventh of the season.
Gonzalez continued a big series in which he is 5-for-13 with a home run, a double, three walks and six RBI in four games.
Again, Birmingham tied the game 5-5 with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
In the ninth, CJ Alexander led off with a base hit. Miller laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Alexander into scoring position. The Barons decided to intentionally walk Lugbauer and Gonzalez to bring up Delgado who delivered the walk-off single to score Alexander and win it 6-5.
LHP Hayden Deal delivered 3 1/3 innings of one-run relief, and RHP Odalvi Javier earned his first win with a scoreless ninth inning.
The fifth game of the series is on Saturday at Trustmark Park. RHP Freddy Tarnok (1-2, 5.62) makes the start for Mississippi against RHP Jason Bilous (3-5, 6.18) for Birmingham. The first pitch is at 6:05 pm CT, with coverage starting at 5:50 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
