Birmingham Barons News Release
The Barons extended their longest winning streak of the season with a 6-5 triumph against the Braves on Thursday night.
The scoring started in the third inning when Mississippi plopped two on RHP Scott Blewett. CJ Alexander singled on a line drive to center field. That brought in Jalen Miller and Justin Dean. Craig Dedelow helped Birmingham respond right away. In the next half inning, the lefty slugger hit an RBI double to make it a 2-1 game.
It didn't take long for the Braves to bounce back either. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Yariel Gonzalez smacked a line drive to right field with the bases loaded to bring in three runs. Gonzalez scooted into second base with a 5-1 Mississippi lead.
Birmingham scored in bulk in the next half inning. Craig Dedelow hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Dedelow now shares the league lead in long balls (14) with Mississippi's Drew Lugbauer. Raudy Read followed suit with his seventh roundtripper of the season to yield two more runs. The 6-5 Barons lead held thanks to 4.1 IP of scoreless baseball from the bullpen.
Emilio Vargas (0-1, 4.40) will get the start for Birmingham tomorrow. Alan Rangel (2-2, 4.82) goes for Mississippi at 6:35 CT.
