Atlantic City Surf News Release

Atlantic City, NJ_ Dario Delgado has gone from playing with the now defunct Pennsylvania Road Warriors of the Atlantic League back to affiliated baseball with a stop in Atlantic City on the way. The former Atlantic City Surf infielder who played first base before moving to third in the second half of the 2004 season has been assigned to the Hickory Crawdads, the Pittsburgh Pirates high single A affiliate after signing with Pittsburgh during spring training.

The 26 year old signed as a non-drafted free agent with Philadelphia in 1997 and played rookie ball for the organization until his release at the end of the 2001 season. After not playing in 2002, the slugger signed with the Road Warriors and put up good numbers, which caught the eye of the Surf for the 2004 season.

Delgado put up all-star numbers for the Surf last season, hitting .313 with 24 home runs and 83 rbi in 447 at-bats, plus he won the Atlantic League home run derby contest prior to the all-star game. Despite the Surf sending a league high ten player back to affiliated baseball last season and Delgado's impressive numbers; he was never one of the players signed.

"It is nice to see Dario make it back to affiliated baseball," said manager Jeff Ball. "He had a great year last year for us but never received a chance. Obviously we would love to have him here in Atlantic City and in the middle of our lineup, but I wish him nothing but the best of luck."

Delgado had two singles for the Crawdads on opening night and his currently hitting .286 through the first four games.

The North Fork Bank All-Star Game will be played at Sandcastle Stadium on July 13 with Home Run Derby sponsored by Century 21 Alliance preceding the first pitch. The Surf opens the season at home on April 28 against the Newark Bears. For tickets call (609) 344-7873, go online to www.ACSurf.com, or visit the Surf ticket office during regular business hours.
