Newark Bears News Release

NEWARK, NJ, April 13—With the start of spring training only two days away, the Newark Bears today announced the signing of four players to contracts for the 2005 season. The Bears signed first-baseman/outfielder Jeremy Todd and pitchers Stevenson Agosto, Emmanuel Ramirez and Bienvenido Feliz.

The 27 year-old Todd is coming off of a terrific 2004 season in which he was the Central League's 7th leading hitter, batting .322 for Amarillo. Todd also established career-highs by hitting 11 home runs and driving in 66 runs a year ago. He finished the season by playing 14 games for Somerset in the Atlantic League.

Agosto is a twelve-year veteran with extensive experience pitching at the triple-A level in the minor leagues. He has pitched in the Anaheim Angels, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Chicago Cubs organizations and has appeared in 296 games in his career. Last season Agosto posted a 3-8 record and a 5.74 ERA over 34 games for Bridgeport in the Atlantic League, allowing less than one hit per inning pitched.

Ramirez, a 25 year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic, is a seven-year pro who has pitched in the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies chains in his career. Last season, while hurling for double-A Tulsa, Ramirez held opponents to a miniscule .192 batting average against and struck out 68 batters in 65.1 innings of work. Overall, Ramirez was 3-5 with a 3.58 ERA in 48 appearances in 2004.

The 27 year-old Feliz owns a 27-12 lifetime record and a 2.86 ERA over 53 career games pitched. He did not pitch in North America a year ago; but in 2003 Feliz was 6-2 with a 3.07 ERA and held opposing batters to a paltry .195 batting average against while pitching for Saskatoon in the Canadian Baseball League.

The four new Bears and their teammates will arrive in Homestead, Florida for the start of spring training this Friday, April the 15th. The regular season opener at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium against the Somerset Patriots is slated for Wednesday, April the 27th at 7:05 PM.

Bears tickets may be purchased at the box office, online at www.NewarkBears.com or by calling (973) 483-6900.
