
Delaware Smash Selects Hometown Hero Madison Brengle

April 1, 2008 (Miami) - The Delaware Smash selected their 2008 players during the World TeamTennis Roster Draft today. Among the lineup will be local star Madison Brengle from Dover, Del. Brengle, who turned pro at the 2007 US Open, was selected by the Smash in their first round draft pick. Just back from playing five tournaments in a row, Brengle had an impressive run at the Las Vegas Open, making it to the fifth round. She is currently ranked 232 singles in the world. Â
Returning for the 5th year in a row is current No. 1 doubles star Liezel Huber. Huber, classified as a player exempt, will play three matches for the Smash. The reigning Wimbledon doubles champion recently won the Dubai tournament earlier this year. Â Also returning is doubles specialist Chris Haggard who continues to be a top 100 doubles player in the world. Rounding out the lineup is former University of Illinois standout Ryler de Hart and top 100 doubles player Christina Fusano.
Earlier this month the Smash announced marquee visits from Venus Williams and Bob and Mike Bryan, as well as the 2008 Home Schedule: July 3, 5, 8 (V. Williams), 11, 15, 17 (Bryan Brothers), and 19. All matches will be played at the DuPont Country Club with a 7:05PM start time. The Smash also plays seven matches on the road during the WTT regular season which runs July 3-23.
