D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (May 22, 2012) - D.C. United announced today that defender Dejan Jakovic has been called-up to the Canadian Men's National Team for two upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and a friendly match against the U.S. Men's National Team. Jakovic will join the Canadian Soccer Association from May 27 to June 13, but will not miss any D.C. United League matches.
The Canadian National Team will train in Ft. Lauderdale in preparation for an international friendly match against the U.S. National Team on June 3 at BMO Field in Toronto. With kickoff set to 7:00 p.m. ET, the game will serve to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Soccer Association.
Canada will then kickoff CONCACAF's Round 3 of 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with matches against Cuba in Havana on June 8 and Honduras in Toronto on June 12. Canada will compete in Group C against Cuba, Honduras and Panama.
Jakovic has appeared in five games this season for D.C. United, starting four. After suffering an injury in early April against New England, Jakovic has regained his health and played 64 minutes as a substitute in D.C. United's a 3-1 win over Toronto FC last Saturday.
