Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed defenseman Rob LaLonde ("lah-LOHND"). Last year, LaLonde (6'4"/210 lbs.), who turned 25 in April, scored three goals, assisted on eleven others, and picked up 156 penalty minutes in 62 games for Reading. LaLonde also earned two separate call-ups last season to the Binghamton Senators of the AHL, where he picked up four penalty minutes in three games.
LaLonde's 156 PIMs and fourteen major penalties last year placed him second amongst ECHL rookies in those categories. His fourteen majors tied him for second when compared with other defensemen in the league. Two of LaLonde's three goals last season came at timely moments-including his first as a pro on October 27, 2006, which gave the visiting Royals a 2-1 third period lead over the Toledo Storm (in a game Reading ultimately lost 3-2 in a shootout). LaLonde also scored a game-tying goal early in the second period against the Cincinnati Cyclones on February 14, 2007, to help fuel a come from behind victory for Reading.
LaLonde, who hails from Williamsville, New York, is a graduate of Merrimack College, where he played 130 games over the course of his four year collegiate career, scoring a total of twelve goals and adding twenty six assists. While with the Warriors, LaLonde racked up a total of 312 penalty minutes, leading the team in pims in both his sophomore and junior seasons. LaLonde's second year at Merrimack was his most productive, setting career highs in points (5g - 9a = 14) and penalty minutes (88) in 34 games. LaLonde also led Merrimack in plus/minus in his freshman season when he played to a (+10) in 36 games. LaLonde, who played his junior hockey with the Cleveland Barons in the North American Hockey League, is a graduate of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in Kenmore, New York.
The Royals' home opener is on Saturday, November 3, 2007, against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Royals' full Season Tickets and Total Choice Flex Plans are now on sale.
