Defenseman Gustav Blom Commits to Play NCAA Division 1 Hockey at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Atlantic Hockey

(Albuquerque, NM) - The New Mexico Ice Wolves® are proud to announce that defenseman Gustav Blom has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers Hockey Team in Atlantic Hockey. Blom, 21, is in his final season of playing junior hockey and first season playing in the NAHL. The 6'1/185 lbs. native of Stockholm, Sweden, is currently leading all NM Ice Wolves defensemen in scoring with 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) in 40 games played.

"I'm proud and honored to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey and further my education at Rochester Institute of Technology," said Blom. "A big thank you to my coaches, teammates, family and friends who made this possible."

Blom's 30 points in tied for 5th among all NAHL defensemen so far this season. Blom is now the sixth member of the 2021-22 NM Ice Wolves team who has secured an NCAA Division I commitment.

"We're extremely happy for Gustaav on his commitment to RIT. Coming to North America is never easy, especially playing the south division. He's adapted well and has been a huge part of our team's success," said New Mexico head coach Phil Fox.

Prior to playing in the NAHL, Blom spent two seasons of playing junior hockey in Sweden in the SuperElit League for Mora and AIK.

The NM Ice Wolves continue their 2021-2022 season this weekend with a two-game road trip on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5 when the team plays South Division rival Lone Star Brahmas in North Richland Hills, Texas. The team returns home to the Outpost Ice Arenas in Albuquerque, NM in March for a two game homestand against the Shreveport Mud Bugs on Friday, March 18 - Saturday, March 19. After the team and league ended the 2019-2020 season early, as all major sports leagues did due to COVID-19, with no playoffs the NM Ice Wolves were honored by the entire North American Hockey League as the NAHL Organization of the Year and the NAHL's South Division Organization of the Year. Alex Dominique became the first ever NM Ice Wolves' player named to the NAHL All-South Division Rookie Team and the team's jersey was voted best in the league in a virtual playoff voted on by fans league wide in the first ever NAHL Tournament of Jerseys.
