Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames and the Adirondack Flames of the AHL, announced Wednesday that they have re-signed Daniel Johnston for the 2014-15 season. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman generated 29 points in 65 games as a rookie last season with the Eagles. He also added one assist in six playoff games with Colorado.

"Last season was one that saw tremendous growth in Daniel's game," said Eagles president and general manager Chris Stewart. "He can be a very physical, gritty defenseman and he came out of his rookie season a better hockey player. I expect to see him take a huge step forward this season."

The Calgary, Alberta native came to Colorado having spent the previous six seasons in the WHL, with time split between the Portland Winterhawks and the Lethbridge Hurricanes. During that time, Johnston appeared in 253 regular season games, recording 17 goals and 88 assists. The blueliner was also able to rack up 251 total penalty minutes during that span.

"My rookie season was a lot of fun and there is not a better place to play than in Colorado," said Johnston. "With the players that have already committed and the new affiliation with the Calgary Flames, we should have a very competitive team and ultimately make a run at a championship."
