Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, N.Y. - August 13, 2014 - The Elmira Jackals, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that rookie goaltender Tony Capobianco has signed a Standard Player Contract for the 2014-2015 season.

Capobianco led Canisius to an American Hockey Association championship in 2012-13. "Tony is a big goaltender who takes up a lot of the net and uses his size well when challenging shooters," said Jackals head coach Jamie Russell. "He was one of the nation's top netminders during his tenure at Canisius and transitioned well to the professional game at the end of last season. Tony is a battler and brings a tremendous work ethic to the arena every day. We jumped at the opportunity to add Tony after Josh Robinson signed in the Austrian Hockey League."

Capobianco, 24, returns to the Jackals after a brief stint with the club at the end of last season. He joined Elmira following the conclusion of his collegiate career at Canisius College and posted an 0-1-0 record with a 4.34 goals-against-average and an .844 save percentage. Capobianco also played in three games for the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League. He recorded a 1-2-0 record with a 2.88 goals-against-average and a .906 save percentage. The 6-foot-2 190-pound goaltender posted a 39-47-10 record in his four-year career at Canisius College. Capobianco went 13-14-2 with a 2.88 goals-against-average and a .913 save percentage in 30 games this season. The Mississauga, Ontario native recorded his best statistical season in 2012-13 and helped Canisius win the American Hockey Association championship. He went 18-19-4 with a 2.40 goals-against-average and a .929 save percentage in 41 games for the Golden Griffins.

"I am excited for the opportunity to play for the Elmira Jackals organization and I look forward to meeting my new teammates in the coming weeks," said Capobianco.

Prior to attending Canisius, Capobianco played two seasons for the Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. He notched a 60-12-4 record with a 2.59 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage for the Raiders.

Robinson, who signed a Standard Player Contract with the Jackals on July 29, signed with Szekesfehervar in the Austrian Hockey League on August 7. Last season, Robinson split time with the Idaho Steelheads and the Calder Cup champion Texas Stars of the American Hockey League. He posted a 6-6-0 record with a 3.30 goals-against-average and a .882 save percentage in 15 games with the Stars. The 6-foot-0 185-pound netminder also went 13-7-1 with a 2.58 goals-against-average and a .911 save percentage in 23 games for the Steelheads.
