Danville, IL - The Dashers continue their search for a first franchise victory as the Warriors of Akwesasne handed them the weekend sweep. The Palmer Arena is the place to see plenty of pucks in the back of the net as another scorefest ensued with the Warriors coming out on top 10-5.
The goaltending woes for the Dashers bled over from the previous game as the Danville netminder, Breton Lindoff, allowed four goals on fourteen Akwesasne Warrior shots. The goals included strikes from Nicholas Corbeil, Patrice Brunet, and a pair from Kyle Quick. The only answers the Dashers could muster were goals from Kyle Heffernan and Justin Barr. The only penalty of the period came from an Akwesasne hooking infraction on the part of Jeremy Van Hoof.
Danville didn't exhibit much improvement in the second set as Akwesasne padded their lead to the lighting of the lamps by Patrice Brunet, his second on the day, Kris McCarthy, and a hat-trick goal by Kyle Quick. The additional goal-scoring prompted Dashers' coach, Scott Beneke, to pull starter Lindoff in favor of Alan Fritch. The lone penalty of the period went to Warrior Addison Pelkey who was nabbed for holding and prevented a potential breakaway goal.
The final period came out even with both teams netting three goals apiece. Goals for Akwesasne were buried by Nicholas Corbeil, his second of the night, Miguel Delisle, and Pierre Dagenais. Danville answered with two goals from Kyle Heffernan, which gave him a hat-trick on the night. It was by far the most chippy period of the weekend as Dashers' Robert Mazins took on Warrior Paul Shantz in a bout midway through the frame. Despite the victory, Jeremy Van Hoof of Akwesasne came off the bench at the end of the game to accrue 25 minutes in penalties to the tune of fighting, a game misconduct, and a match penalty. The loss drops Danville to 0-4-0 for the season, while Akwesasne improves to 4-1-0.
A three week road trip will present the only future opportunities for the Dashers to garner a victory before the end of the month. That road trip begins with another match against Akwesasne, so the Dashers will need some major improvements if they don't want to go 0-3 against the champs in the young season.
