Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT- Tuesday's matchup at Dodd Stadium featured the Eastern League's two hottest teams; both coming in with a five game winning streak on the line but it was the Harrisburg Senators extending their streak to six pulling off a 4-3 win over Connecticut.

A three run homerun by LF-Marvin Lowrance in the sixth propelled the Sens into the lead as they captured game one of the best of four series.

The Defenders continued their hot hitting in the first inning for the second straight game. Connecticut used an RBI double by 1B-Brett Pill and an RF-Eddy Martinez-Esteve RBI single to take an early 2-0 advantage.

2B-Brock Bond delivered a single to leadoff the third inning to extend his MLB/MiLB leading on base streak to 46 games.

In the sixth inning with a 3-2 count on 3B-Joel Guzman, Defenders' starter RHP-Henry Sosa left the ballgame due to pain in his right tricep. Sosa fired 5.1 scoreless innings allowing only four hits, walked one and struck out three in the no decision. The Senators than jumped on reliever RHP-Dan Griffin as RF-Leanord Davis singled, 2B-Ofilio Castro drew a walk and then LF-Marvin Lowrance crushed a three run homer to give Harrisburg the lead at 3-2. Griffin (5-5) on the very next plunked C-Javi Herrera and was immediately ejected.

Harrisburg added one more run in the seventh as Davis delivered an RBI single to plate pinch hitter Bill Rhinehart. That was all Senators' starter, RHP-Carlos Martinez (4-2) needed as he tossed 5.2 innings of six hit ball allowed two earned runs, walked one and fanned one in the win.

Connecticut will look to rebound in game two's matchup tomorrow as they'll send LHP-Madison Bumgarner (5-1) to the bump against the Senators' RHP-Erik Arnesen (4-2). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
